“Come up here, and I will show you the things that must take place.”
Revelation chapter 4 is one of the most visually dense passages in the Bible — a throne of crystalline turquoise, four living creatures covered in eyes, 24 elders casting golden crowns across a sea of glass. The imagery is specific, layered, and deeply architectural.
The Open Door is a GenAI cinematic short film based on this chapter. It uses generative AI to produce a painterly, frame-by-frame visual narrative — with a full screenplay, character designs, concept boards, and a detailed shot list.
The project consists of the following deliverables:
Patmos. A stone dwelling at dusk. John — aged, exiled, alone — writes by lamplight. The palette is muted, earthy, terrestrial. Everything is heavy. Everything is before.
A door of blazing light materializes in his room. A voice like a trumpet. The world stretches. John is pulled through a dimensional membrane into heaven’s throne room — vast, crystalline, overwhelmingly luminous.
The throne. The creatures. The elders falling. Crowns cast across a sea of glass. An architecture of worship laid bare — then the slow dissolve back to a man, sitting at a table, forever changed.

The visual language for this project is built on the idea that the most sacred moments in human experience occur at the boundary between what can be seen and what can only be felt.
Light is not illumination — it is material. Something that can be layered, sculpted, and accumulated with the same deliberateness a mason lays stone. Every composition must feel as though someone spent countless hours calibrating the precise point where gold becomes white, where emerald dissolves into atmosphere, where form surrenders to radiance.
Every character and entity has a three-view turnaround sheet — front, 3/4, and back — ensuring animation consistency across all 20 shots. Each design is grounded in specific biblical source material with supporting cross-references.
Each major scene has a corresponding concept board, from Patmos through the throne room to the final dissolve. These serve as visual targets for final frame generation.

Each frame specifies a real-world lens equivalent, depth of field, and camera movement. The shot list functions as a director’s technical reference for frame generation.

Cinematic depictions of Revelation have historically required large production budgets. GenAI makes it possible to develop visual narrative at this scale with a much smaller team and timeline.
The text describes phenomena that are difficult to photograph or build practically — faces consumed by light, creatures covered in eyes, seas of crystal. GenAI handles this kind of imagery well.
The character sheets and prompts form a repeatable pipeline. Each entity can be regenerated at higher fidelity as models improve — the creative direction stays consistent while the output quality increases.
“You are worthy, Jehovah our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they came into existence and were created.”
